Do bands and musicians really need websites?
Posted in Guides
Social media and music platforms are essential to build your fan base and promote your music, and each one of them has its strengths. But relying on one or a couple of them just isn’t ideal. You’re putting all this work into your music career, and you want it to benefit you, not just the platforms. And that’s where a website comes in.
A website is your own independent home base where everything about you lives in that one place.
With a website, you control everything, and you’re not at the mercy of one platform that can change the rules, reduce your presence through an algorithm, or control how you communicate with your fans. Other platforms can go away, or you may decide to leave because you disagree with their policies. Plus, your website represents you authentically and showcases all of you, not just your latest release.
Websites make it easier for fans and search engines to find you outside of a specific platform.
Fans can connect and grow with you, and you get valuable insight about those fans. Having a website legitimizes your creativity and hard work. It looks like you and it sounds like you by supporting custom designs, custom domain, your logo etc. A website also looks better to fans, record labels, booking agents, and managers.
By using all the available tools and centralizing them on your website, you create a seamless experience for your fans.
You also lessen the reliance on any single particular platform, and you can utilize the strengths of all the individual platforms. Your music career shouldn’t depend on the hottest new platform. Instead, you should be ready for any new platform that pops up that can help you connect with your fans wherever they are.
